as a Foreign Language (TEFL)

The Certificate in TEFL course covers the essential components needed to equip one with the necessary skills to land that first job as an English teacher in a private school. The programme provides an insight into the challenges facing the learner and the role of the teacher. The up-to-date and practical course provides a path for those desiring a fast entry into the teaching industry or who are exploring teaching English as a possible career without an initially huge outlay in investment.

Requirements

At least 18 Years of age
GCE ‘O’ Levels with a credit in English or equivalent

For Foreign students, a high school qualification and a IELTS score of 6.5 is required

If you do not fall within the above categories but are interested, please summit all your qualifications and a letter explaining why you should be considered. You may be asked to undergo a written English proficiency test and attend an interview. Your application will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Assessments

Open book course assignments to be submitted to London Teacher Training College in the U.K. where they will be assessed and graded by two examiners.

Duration

This is a 24-session course, 1.5 hours each time, done in a blended setting of an online platform and a classroom environment. There will be a total of 36 hours of lecture time, excluding homework.

Class Size

The maximum class size is five students. The teacher/student ratio will never be more than 1:5.

Students get classroom teaching experience. They are trained to prepare lesson plans on all four skills, as well as grammar and pronunciation. The instructor will evaluate students’ lesson plans and classroom teaching and the marks obtained will go into their final grading.

Course Fees

Fees are paid in instalments according to course completion:

1st Lesson: S$500

7th Lesson: S$500

15th Lesson: S$500

TOTAL: S$1500

Note: The fee collected at lesson one includes a S$100 registration fee.
